Recent News – Class action against Tavern on Broad/Wage Violation Law

Last week, together with our colleagues from Connolly Wells & Gray, LLP, attorneys from Kalikhman & Rayz, LLC filed a class action against Tavern on Broad – self-described as “Philadelphia’s premier adult bar,” located in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, beneath the famous Bellevue. As detailed in the complaint, Tavern on Broad failed to properly pay employees the mandated minimum wage and, in fact, during a significant period of time, employees were only compensated by the tips they received. Initiated in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the class action seeks compensation on the basis of the Fair Labor Standards Act, 29 U.S.C. § 201 et seq., the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act, 43 P.S. § 333.101, et seq., the Pennsylvania Wage Payment and Collection Law, 43 Pa.C.S. § 260.1 et seq., and common law causes of action.

Our firm is actively involved in investigation and prosecution of various aspects of “wage and hour” violations, especially in the restaurant and entertainment industries, such as “working off the clock,” failure to pay minimum wage, and failure to conform to the U.S. Department of Labor “tip credit” requirements. If you or anyone you know may have been victimized by nefarious employment practices, please do not hesitate to contact Kalikhman & Rayz, LLC.
